Viso Horny comes from Tyler Jeffery. Tyler who originally lived in Wisconsin, moved to Austin, TX where he has become a frequent visitor of RoMa Craft in both Austin and Esteli. Therefore it is no surprise he turned to that factory in the creation of this cigar made up from only Viso priming tobaccos.
According to press release, “The blend was a collaborative effort between Tyler Jeffery and Alex Nowogrodzka. Tyler emphasizes that this release holds special significance, as he played a hands-on role in procuring a key filler leaf that defines the cigar’s final profile. “Being involved from the very beginning—personally selecting the tobacco that became part of this blend—makes The 555 deeply personal for me,” he shared. ‘Crafting this blend was both an exciting and rewarding challenge. Utilizing only viso primings throughout the cigar, we focused on achieving the perfect balance to ensure an exceptional burn and effortless draw. The result is a unique smoking experience that showcases the rich complexity of viso while maintaining flawless performance.”
This is the second release of Viso Horny with the first (4 x 52) being sold direct to consumer. This time around distribution is handled by Pospiech, Inc. the company behind Powstanie. The name which is a take on the 2 Live Crew song Me So Horny from 1989. The band would go on to release Banned in the USA in 1990 after a first amendment case was brought against them and it became the first album in history to receive a parental warning label.

The Cigar: Covered with a lilac foot band on bottom the non banded cigar has a rustic look to it with a silky feel under the fingers in most areas, slightly coarse in others. In the hand the cigar is heavy with no voids of tobacco. Box pressed to perfection the cigar is begging to be smoked with its flawless wrapper.
The Notes: The aroma from the foot has a slightly floral scent to it along with some subtle molasses, brown sugar, mustard and paprika making me I wish I had some ribs to go with this cigar. Once the cigar is cut there is an abundance of leather with some subtle lemon and even more paprika.
As I smoke the first third notes of dark chocolate begin to emerge with hints of chili giving the cigar a taste profile similar to a Lindt Chili Dark Chocolate. As the first third comes a close there are also notes of cherries, earth and wood while the retrohale enhances the chili component.
Moving into the second third, dark chocolate remains with a bit of earth and a growing amount of cedar notes that become dominant by the half way point of the Viso Horny. As we move into the second half the resting aroma of the serves up black peppercorns and grilled meat both which transcend to the palate. The retrohale sees the spice of chili powder ramp up slightly.
The final third sees chocolate notes continue almost taking on fudge like flavor profile. There is a nice amount of chili powder spice along with black peppercorns to round things out with nuances of oak. The retrohale continues to serve up additional spice but there is also a kettle potato chip note which totally caught me off guard. I needed to relight it was a little less than an inch left before I reluctantly put it down with a half inch left.
Conclusion: A cigar plant is broken down into four levels with the top being Ligero, followed by Viso, Seco and Volado. Ligero is said to be the strongest being at the top of the plant and getting the most sunlight while volado has virtually no flavor and strength and is often used for combustion purposes. If you listen to the decades of marketing you would think without ligero the cigar wouldn’t be strong. This is not the case with Viso Horny which is almost full in perceived strength.
For those who think a cigar that contains no ligero tobacco can’t be strong this cigar proves that wrong. While it might not have the perceived nicotine kick that a higher priming ligero can bring it has a nice amount of kick to it and is an extremely enjoyable experience.
