Cigar Review: Davidoff Escurio 10th Anniversary Limited Edition

It’s hard to believe 2025 is the Davidoff Escurio 10th Anniversary. It feels like the cigar was released just yesterday and to honour the tenth anniversary of its Escurio line, Davidoff Cigars has released a limited edition gran toro cigar. The blend of the Davidoff Escurio has a combined age of 45 years.

According to Edward Simon, CMO at Oettinger Davidoff. “Our large and diverse inventory facilitated the creation of this special cigar. By adding our well-aged Brazilian tobaccos, we not only distinguish ourselves in terms of stock, but in terms of a unique taste experience where the spicy Brazilian tobaccos dynamically mingle with the creamy Dominican tobaccos. For extra depth, we have fermented one of the Dominican fillers in a bourbon cask, which gives the cigar a beautiful sweetness.”

The Cigar: A milk chocolate brown wrapper adorns the black banded Davidoff Escurio 10th Anniversary that also sports a secondary band denoting the 10th Anniversary. There are some noteworthy veins present and there are some imperfections in the wrapper (look above the band in the image). The foot is exceptionally spongy coming off a underfilled while the cigar is very light in the hand.

The Notes: The cold draw of the Davidoff Escurio 10th Anniversary is minty which is new to me and perhaps a result of one of the Dominican filler leaves being aged in a rum barrel. The foot of the cigar has a subtle sweetness, wood and earth present. With thunderstorms in the distance I light the cigar which sees another strange and new note to me, lime.

As we settle into the first third the lime note dissipates rather quickly revealing notes of earth cedar and a touch of cinnamon that is vibrant and dominant at times. Additional notes are vanilla, floralness and mushrooms creating a full flavor experience on a cigar that is mild-medium as the first third comes to a close. The mushrooms and floral components are intensified on the retrohale.

As we start the second third the sun appears with a growing amount of blue sky. Earth remains dominant and the cigar is joined by some toasted white bread, mild coffee and a touch of dry cocoa powder. As we cross over to the halfway point oak notes become dominant with nuts and a continued floral component that is intensified on the retrohale. As the second third comes to a close the lime note is back as the perceived strength of the cigar becomes medium.

The last third sees lime remain with a subtle oak, oak, coffee and leather. While the flavors are full, the strength of the Davidoff Escurio 10th Anniversary is a perceived medium in terms of strength. As the cigar closes out its leathery with a dry finish and a retrohale that sees nuts, lime and leather to round out this flavor bomb.

Conclusion: The Escurio for me has always been a forgotten line in the Davidoff Portfolio. It never had a perceived value for me despite being a tasty cigar. The Davidoff Escurio 10th Anniversary coming in at $37 doesn’t help that even with some incredibly aged tobaccos. Also, according to the press release on paper it’s the same blend as the original although the LE is said to have one of the Dominican filler leaves aged in a bourbon barrel that process doesn’t really stand out. As far as the cigar goes it’s a flavor bomb with a lot going on just not enough for me to drop $37 on another despite the high score.
