Cigar Review: Warped Corto Maduro X46

Warped Corto Maduro X46 was released in 2025, but the regular Corto line saw it’s introduction in 2016. Back then, the company called it the first full bodied blend they crafted, but full bodied in their eyes. A complex cigar with a depth of body but not overpowering. Designed for time sensitive cigar moments.

The name Corto translates into English as Short and the 4.5 x 46 cigar is the perfect offering for me on this 100 degree day in New Hampshire. I usually keep shorter cigars on hand in the winter, so let’s see if this cigar that was part of the Small Batch Cigar $50 Cigar Club makes it to my winter rotation

The Cigar: A classic San Andres Wrapper with some tooth and a thin network of veins adorns the cigar. Sadly this short cigar has two path jobs which I have attached at the bottom of the review. Being it’s from a cigar club I only have one to review and maybe I’ll adapt Dave Portnoy and only use one cigar from now on… you know the rules… but anyway I digress. The red, gold, black and white has an asian feel to it, but I like that it was designed in scale of the small cigar. In the hand there are some voids of tobacco near the half-way point so I’ll be curious how it burns.

The Taste: The cold draw has notes of mocha with a subtle marshmallow and a wisp of graham crackers giving the cigar a s’mores like taste to it prior to lighting. The foot of the cigar sees more notes of graham crackers with some wood notes thrown is as well. Once the cigar is toasted and lit there is earthy component to start.

Smoking the first half of this short cigar sees notes of wheat and corn serve as the dominant flavor for the first half-inch or so before the cigar develops hearty notes of cedar that dominate the palate. Secondary note of earth, leather, and a subtle floral component round things out for the first half which is beginning to become sweeter. The retrohale sees salt, cardboard and a bit of pepper.

Moving into the second third the sweetness never materializes and the cigar remains earthy with nuances of leather and corn. As we move toward the band second third notes of cardboard emerge which are amplified on the retrohale that sees more pepper than in the first half. After I removed the band I took a couple of more puffs before I tapped out.

Conclusion: Warped Cigars is such a hit of miss brand for me and as much as I wanted to like the Warped Corto Maduro, it missed. The cigar lacked balance and the blend was extremely coarse on the palate with none of the flavors working well for my palate. In fact for me the company hasn’t reclaim the glory of their early years. If Warped Cigars was a stock, I would say, sell! But, what doesn’t work for me, might work for you so don’t take my word of it without trying it yourself.
