Press Release: Michter’s Releasing Limited Edition Barrel Proof Rye

A few months after becoming the first American whiskey to be named The World’s Most Admired Whiskey by a 2023 vote of an international academy of voters announced by UK based Drinks International, Michter’s is releasing its limited edition US*1 Barrel Strength Kentucky Straight Rye.

The last bottling of this whiskey took place in 2022.

I am excited that our Master Distiller Dan McKee and our Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson felt that this whiskey is ready,” commented Michter’s President Joseph J. Magliocco. “This rye is really special.

Michter’s US*1 Barrel Strength Rye is a single barrel product, and the average proof of the barrels in this 2024 release is 110.2 proof (55.1% ABV).

It’s enormously expensive for us to barrel our distillate at the lower entry proof of 103 vs the permissible 125 entry proof, but the result, as this product shows, is a richer and more complex whiskey,” observed McKee.

A Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Famer, Wilson has an affinity for great rye whiskey, and US*1 Barrel Strength Rye is one of her favorites. According to her, “The Barrel Strength Rye is a smooth, beautifully balanced, and bold journey of flavor through sweet, savory, and spice characters that is a delight to the senses and a joy to drink.

A single barrel product, each barrel of Michter’s US*1 Barrel Strength Rye is bottled at its particular alcohol level at the time of bottling. To savor it is a unique experience for anyone who enjoys rye whiskey.
